Art In Public Buildings
On the occasion of the artistic design of the Muthgasse III building, VIBT (Vienna Institute of Biotechnology) pictures "Cycle Evolution and Dissemination of Knowledge" Gilded clay sculptures by Uwe B. Sleytr, color fillings with Fritz Simak Fossil finds and molecular biological findings enable an ever more precise reconstruction of the evolution of life forms. A derived prediction of the further development of life is, however, hardly possible. The gilded clay sculptures represent an artistic reappraisal of an evolution accelerated by synthetic biology. The associated explosive increase in knowledge and knowledge dissemination is symbolized by the multiplication of the sensory organs (e.g. noses, eyes) and the brain dimensions. The layers of paint reflect the dynamics and the unpredictability of the possibilities of a development of life influenced by synthetic biology.
